30 Day Prayer Guide

In preparation for a recent church meeting, we used the prayer guide below to direct our thoughts to God’s leading in 2023. As we are still pondering some of the main items, we will leave it here to assist you in continued prayer.

Day 1 – As we start this time of focused prayer; let’s pray for a clean heart. (Psalm 19:12-14) Father, I come before you with a prayer for a clean heart, one that’s focused on You and Your will, not mine. I ask for forgiveness of my sins. “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 2 – Take time today to Praise God for all He has done for and through Port City so far. Think back to the very beginning and see what He has done! (Psalm 145:1-4) Heavenly Father, you are great and worthy of praise! Who can fathom all that You are or all that You have done? I thank you, Lord, for the changes in the hearts of those who love You. I praise you for the lives changed through your Word. I thank you for the spiritual growth of our members; seeing them step out in faith. I give You thanks and praise for all the answered prayers and the works of Your hands. Praise be to You, O Mighty God! In Jesus’ Strong Name, Amen.
Day 3 – Today let’s pray for unity of heart and mind for our church family, Staff, and Shepherds in visioning Port City’s future. (Acts 4:32) (1 Cor. 1:10) Most gracious Father, I come before you today asking that all of us at Port City be of one heart and one mind as we approach the upcoming Family Meeting. I pray that only love will be spoken here. I ask for a spirit of unity combined with grace and love abound in us. Let there be no division amongst us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 4 – Pray for our Shepherds to have wisdom and discernment to hear God’s voice as they lead us into the next year and beyond. (James 1:5, Romans 15:30) Lord God Almighty, today I lift up our Shepherds to you. Father, I pray that they will be strengthened and encouraged in their faith. I ask that you give them a generous measure of wisdom and discernment over the future of Port City. I pray that you would give them a spirit of boldness and confidence. Let their trust in You grow. I appreciate their hearts of service and dedication to our church family. In Jesus’s Holy Name, Amen.

Day 5 – Pray  for our Staff that God lead them in their assigned roles in the church to influence others for Christ. (Romans 15:30) As I come before you today, Lord, my request is for our Staff. They are a much needed part of our church family. They are, a lot of times, the first impression of Port City and Jesus that others see. Let them use their spiritual gifts and talents to the best of their ability to serve those in Your kingdom. Encourage them in their daily walk. Give them boldness to share Jesus with all they meet. In His Name, I pray, Amen.

Day 6 – Pray for the families attending Port City to be encouraged, strengthened, renewed. (1Timothy 2:1) Father God, I want to lift up to You today our entire church family, whether they are with us in person or via Live Stream, whether current members or a past member of the family. Your Word tells us that we should offer prayers and petitions for all people, who better to focus on than the people we worship with each week. I ask Lord that you would encourage those who are tired and yet are still serving faithfully. I ask that you would strengthen those who are suffering the loss of a loved one, going through a time of illness, or are just burdened. Lord God, I ask for Your Holy Spirit to renew their hearts and minds. Remind them of the love they had when they first met You. Let them feel your peace and joy. You, O God, can do all things. I offer these prayers in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 7  Today be in concentrated prayer for Port City’s future path. (Jeremiah 29:11) Abba Father, I come to You today looking toward the future. Our church family desires to walk in Your ways, to follow Your path, to look to Your leading as we make plans. Our goal is to serve You and to share with others the knowledge of a saving faith through Christ. Show us Your will. Show us Your plans. Guide in the direction You would have us take, and give us the courage to follow. In the Name of Jesus, Our Lord, Amen.

Day 8 - Pray for God to be glorified through your prayers. (Psalm 19:14) Bread of Life, Our Rock, Our Shield, Our Redeemer, all of these names are Yours and they are powerful. They tell of who You are to those who love You. Today, especially, Father, I pray that the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart give You glory, honor, and praise! My desire is not to pray selfishly but to be open to Your leading, trusting in Your ways, and remembering all that You have done for me. Bless Your Holy Name, Amen.

Day 9 – Pray for open hearts and open minds of all that are participating in the meeting and decision-making process.  (Psalm 51:10, Col. 3:2) As we move closer to the meeting day, Lord God, renew our spirits, help us to keep our hearts pure. Help us to set our minds on things above and let go of the cares of this world. Let our hearts be open to Your call and Your leading. Help us to let go of the past and start anew with fresh eyes, fresh vision, fresh joy in You. Hear our prayer, Father. Amen.

Day 10 - Pray specifically for God’s leading in whether or not we should hire a Family/Involvement Minister to work with us in ministering to our current families and those who may come in.  (Psalm 43:3) On this day, Lord, I ask specifically for wisdom. I ask that Your light lead the way. Father, do we need to step out in faith and hire a new Staff member to re-energize us, to breathe new life into this faithful body of Christ? Is this Your best for us? I pray that You would give us a clear answer, a shared opinion by all who are praying in unity over this question today. Let us see You at work in the answer, Heavenly Father. Amen.

Day 11 – Pray for wisdom for upcoming decisions. (James 1:5, Romans 8:26) There are many decisions coming up that are important to our church family and it’s continued outreach in the Mobile area, Father. Today, I focus on those. Is the purchase of a van a wise investment? Is it a good way to further reach out to our community and also serve those with transportation issues in our church family? Should we hire a new Family/Involvement Minister? Should we step into the community to serve even more than we have? I don’t have the answers, I’m not sure I even have all the questions, but You do, O Lord. Give us the wisdom we earnestly seek. In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.

Day 12 – Pray for the hearts of all in our church family to be turned to service. (1 John 3:18) Father, Your Word says, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” Let us be people of action, people of truth! I pray that each heart in our church family, from young to old, will want to serve our community and in our church body, using the gifts You have given each of them. If they haven’t discovered their gifts, I pray You will intercede and shine a light on them so that they are evident to all. Whatever their gift/talent is, I pray that all will see it’s usefulness to the body and the need for service. When we give/serve, so often we are blessed more than the recipient. Let us be Your hands and feet! To You, Lord we offer this prayer, Amen.

Day 13 – Prayer for God to show us how best to use our facilities to benefit our membership but also to draw others in. (1 Chron. 29:13, Psalm 24:1, James, 1:17) Lord God, I come to You with a thankful heart today and give you praise for all You have done! Father, I know that all that Port City has belongs to You, the Earth is Yours and everything in it. You have blessed us. The building/property that You have provided, the playground, the gifted people who make up our church family and so much more. Would You show us today how best to use our facilities to bring others in to hear about Christ? Specific thoughts and ideas to utilize our Gym (game nights?, devos?) our building (tutoring classes?, special lessons on parenting/child safety?). Prompt our minds and spirits to think outside the box and be creative. We want to honor You with all we have. Help us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 14  - Prayer for God to shine a light on service opportunities in our community for our whole church family to be involved in. (Gal. 5:13-14) Father God, I pray that today you would give me new eyes to see our community. With that, Lord, please let me see new opportunities for us to serve in their midst. Give me creative vision and a heart open to Your direction. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 15 - Pray for opportunities to witness to the lost. (I John 5:14-15) Lord, our desire to tell more people about You and Your goodness, Your saving mercy, You unfailing love. Please put people in our path that we can love well by talking and teaching them about You. In Jesus’ Strong Name, Amen.

Day 16 - Prayer for God’s blessings on our resources to grow to meet the needs. (1Chron. 29:12) Lord, God, I know that ALL things are possible for You and through You. Father, I pray that you would expand our resources, be it money, workers, talents/gifts, whatever it is that is needed to meet the needs that we have as a church body trying to do Your work. I know we can trust You with all that we have, all that we will ever have and our future. I ask that You be Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Who Will Provide. Amen.

Day 17 - Pray for God to bring us young families/individuals who are eager to serve and be a part of a bigger family of God. (Ephesians 3:20) (Malachi 3:10) Most Gracious Lord, I pray that You will provide new life, new energy, new ideas through the families and individuals that I believe You are bringing to our church, even as I request this of you. Our desire as a church family is to do more outreach and serve more. We could use more workers in the field to help with the harvest. We are asking and we are trusting we will receive from Your Holy Hand, Amen.

Day 18 -  Pray for our church family to serve using  whatever gifts and talents they have.  (1Peter 4:10-11) Lord God, You give good gifts to all Your people. You give each of us something that we can do well. Some are artists, some are generous, some are hospitable. My prayer is that You would open the eyes of each member of our church family to their particular gifting. I pray that You would give them a spirit of boldness to step out and use those gifts especially if they have never done so before. Touch their hearts with the truth that they are wanted and needed to serve. You gave us our gifts to use, not to hide. In Your Holy Name, Amen.

Day 19 – Pray for God’s Holy Spirit to move through us. (Romans 5:5) Father, Your Holy Spirit is compared to breath and the wind in Your Word. In that vein, Lord, I pray that Your Spirit would breathe new life into our church family and new faith in our individual hearts. My heart asks for a Spirit of renewal. Let us feel and see You moving today. In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.

Day 20 – Prayer today will be over the purchase of a van and ways that a van could be used to bring people in.  (Psalm 32:8) Heavenly Father, we are told to be good stewards of what You have provided. That means being wise with the church’s finances. We are considering the purchase of a van, it would mean spending a large amount of money. We have ideas for ways to use that van but is it Your best for us? Father, please share Your wisdom to the majority so that we can be in agreement whether to purchase or not. Thank You Holy Father, Amen.

Day 21 - Pray for God’s power. (Jeremiah 33:3, Matthew 17:20-21) Father, we have faith in You, even though it may be as small as a mustard seed, You can take it and make it a mountain! I pray that Your power will be seen throughout this process of prayer and decision making! I pray that You are being glorified through every minute of prayer being offered, through our sincere love, hope and trust in You. Give us the power to do Your will, especially in the hard things. Amen.

Day 22 – Pray today for fellowship opportunities that build up the family and glorify God at the same time. Blessed Father, today I am lifting up our church family. I am asking that You bless the relationships within. I pray for deeper bonds with each other, whether friends or family. I pray that in Your wisdom You would grant us opportunities to build up our church family and glorify You at the same time. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 23 – Pray for our neighbors/community that they will see the need for God in their lives and feel the pull of His call. (2 Thess. 2:14, 1 Peter 2:21) Heavenly Father, today we are lifting up our neighbors, in particular those that surround our church building. Our prayer is that today You will show them their need for You by prompting their heart about heavenly things. Maybe that’s through a word someone says to them, maybe it’s the slogan on our sign, maybe they’re hurting and want to ask for prayer. Whatever it is, Lord, we ask that You draw them close to You and if it’s Your will, that You would direct them to us to help them on their search. We love You, Lord and are grateful that You want all to come to You. Amen.

Day 24 - Pray in faith that God will hear and answer our prayers. (Matthew 21:22, Mark 11:24) Precious Lord, I know and believe that You hear our prayers. I also know that You answer. Sometimes the answer is “no”, sometimes, it’s “yes”, sometimes it’s “wait”. As we near the date of our Family Meeting, Lord, we are asking in all love and sincerity for Your wisdom and definitive answers about Port City’s future. Our desire to be in unity of heart, mind, and Spirit. We ask that You work in us to bring us clarity. We trust in You, Amen.

Day 25 - Pray for God’s blessing on our church family in all things. (Ephesians 6:18) Father, You are loving, kind, compassionate and merciful. You desire good things for Your children, it’s why You pursue us so that we can have eternal life with You. I pray today with a heart full of love for our church family and a desire that all those good things from You will be given to them today. You know best for us. We love You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 26 - Pray for a spirit of hope for all those who serve in our church body. (Romans 15:13, Romans 12:12) Father, You know that even the most sincerest of Christians get tired and can grow weary. Our hope is in You. You renew our strength. You renew our Spirit. Today, Lord, I ask that you rejuvenate all those who serve in our church body. Remind them of the reason they serve. You, Lord. It’s all about You. Refresh us, revive us. We love You. Amen.

Day 27 – Give thanks that God’s love is everlasting, and He never gives up on us. (Jeremiah 31:3, Hebrews 13:5b) Father, You never change. You are the same yesterday, today, tomorrow. Your love for us is the same, unchanging. You are the God of 2nd chances and do-overs and we can never say “Thank You” enough! All You ask of us is to repent when we’ve messed up and turn back to You. Give us soft and tender hearts to always turn back to You. We all fall down but thanks to Your sacrifice through Christ, we don’t stay down. With grateful hearts we pray, Amen.

Day 28 – Prayer for Port City to show God’s Word to be true and relevant to our people, our community, our city. (Hebrews 4:12) Merciful Father, Your Word is true. Truth is Your name. Our desire as a church family is to spread that truth to all who come on our campus. We want all who check out our website, our Live Stream, who visit our services or classes to hear truth and let them know it’s spoken here. Shine a light on Your Word. Give us opportunities to take Your Word to our community and our city. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 29 – Pray for Port City to be a place where all who come in seeking God find Him spoken here, in actions as well as words. (1 John 3:18, James 1:22, Colossians 3:17) Your word tells us to do all things in love. Others listen to our words but more importantly they look at our actions. Let all that we do be done in love. Help us to guard our tongues to speak only truth and love. Let us be Jesus with skin on so that You are all they see when they look at us. Make us holy, Lord. Amen.

Day 30 - Pray for tone of the upcoming meeting to be productive, with truth spoken in love. (Ephesians 4:15) Father, as the meeting is near, I pray specifically for a good attendance. I pray for open hearts to feel the love and concerns that are being shared. I pray for wisdom for all decisions made. I pray for all to treat each other with respect, to give others a chance to speak. I pray for a spirit of unity. Father, should there be disagreement, I pray that it would be handled with dignity, calmness, and understanding that all have a right to their thoughts and opinions. I pray that it would be a productive meeting with answers decided that are Your will for us and our future. I pray that Your presence will be felt amongst us. In Your Holy Name, Amen.
